Transcript: How to connect an external account

Setting up an external account allows you to transfer funds between your CIBC accounts and accounts at other financial institutions.

In this video, we'll show you how to connect an external account by using our partner, Plaid.

Plaid is a secure platform that allows you to safely connect with outside accounts and apps without sharing your personal Sign On details.

Sign on to your CIBC US Digital Banking account, then choose Transfer Funds.

Click on add or edit external accounts. You'll see a list of accounts already connected as well as an option to disconnect or unlink any you no longer wish to use.

Click on Add An External Account. Plaid is used to connect this account.

You'll be prompted for a one-time verification code by text or phone call. Enter this code to continue the process.

You'll notice a list of all external connections you already have. As well, Plaid offers you a list of financial institutions to choose from to proceed. To proceed, select one or type the name into the search field provided.

Once complete, you must log into the external financial institution to authorize the connection.

If a direct connection fails, some banks may require you to enter your routing and transit number, so best to have this on hand just in case.

Please note that some financial institutions have restrictions on the connection. When your external account is connected, you'll receive a confirmation email.

This new external account will appear in your list of available accounts for transfers.

You're now able to conveniently access it through Transfer Funds and Transfer To.
