CIBC U.S. Commercial Banking adds new team members

CHICAGO, MAY 17, 2023 — CIBC today announced the hiring of:

• Raza Ali as Managing Director and Group Portfolio Manager for CIBC US Commercial Banking in Chicago
• David Phoeung as Managing Director and Senior Relationship Manager for CIBC US Commercial Real Estate Banking in Tampa
• Nick Schweim as Managing Director and Senior Relationship Manager for CIBC US Commercial Banking in Minneapolis

Raza Ali brings more than 15 years of experience to CIBC as a group portfolio manager in Chicago. In his role, he works closely with CIBC’s Construction and Engineering relationship managers by deepening client relationships through deal screens, underwriting and risk assessments. Prior to joining CIBC, Ali was a vice president and credit products officer at Bank of the West. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

David Phoeung joins CIBC’s Commercial Real Estate Team as a senior relationship manager responsible for internal portfolio management and front line risk management for CIBC’s Commercial Real Estate portfolio in Florida. In his 20-year career, Phoeung previously served as a vice president at American Momentum Bank. He received a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in international business from the University of South Florida.

Nick Schweim, a 20-year industry veteran, joins CIBC’s Minneapolis office as a senior relationship manager. In this role, he fosters commercial relationships by delivering CIBC’s banking and financial services, including treasury management and various lending structures. He also works closely with the bank’s Capital Markets group. Previously, Schweim held roles in structured lending, middle-market commercial banking, and M&A advisory. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
